Biography

Clinical background & expertise

Dr Chelsea Tan completed her medical degree before undertaking physician training across regional and metropolitan Victoria. She trained in general medicine and endocrinology at Bendigo Health and Monash Health, where she was awarded Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).

Her clinical practice spans the full range of adult endocrinology, with a particular focus on diabetes mellitus, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, and women's hormonal health including polycystic ovary syndrome, menstrual irregularity and menopausal care. She has considerable experience in the initiation and optimisation of insulin therapy and in the use of continuous glucose monitoring and other diabetes technologies.

Dr Tan brings a strong commitment to patient-centred care and clear communication. She believes that informed, engaged patients achieve better outcomes, and she takes care to explain diagnoses and treatment options in plain language, adapting her approach to the individual needs of each person she sees.

A particular strength of Dr Tan's practice is her ability to consult in Mandarin and Malay as well as English, enabling patients from Chinese-speaking and Malay-speaking backgrounds to engage fully with their care in their preferred language. She sees patients at Suite 49, Cabrini Malvern, and provides inpatient endocrinology consultation at Cabrini Malvern Hospital.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Tan is undertaking doctoral research as a PhD student in the Metabolic Bone Research group at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. Her research interests focus on osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease — conditions that form a central part of her clinical practice and that she is committed to advancing through translational research.
