Dr Chelsea Tan is a consultant endocrinologist with broad expertise across adult endocrinology and diabetes. She is committed to a holistic, patient-centred approach — one that prioritises clear communication, shared decision-making, and care that is genuinely tailored to each individual. Dr Tan consults in English, Mandarin and Malay, making specialist endocrine care accessible to a wider community.
Dr Tan holds Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and completed her specialist training across Bendigo Health and Monash Health. She sees patients across the full breadth of adult endocrine conditions, with particular clinical interests in diabetes, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, osteoporosis, and women's hormonal health.
Dr Chelsea Tan completed her medical degree before undertaking physician training across regional and metropolitan Victoria. She trained in general medicine and endocrinology at Bendigo Health and Monash Health, where she was awarded Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
Her clinical practice spans the full range of adult endocrinology, with a particular focus on diabetes mellitus, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, and women's hormonal health including polycystic ovary syndrome, menstrual irregularity and menopausal care. She has considerable experience in the initiation and optimisation of insulin therapy and in the use of continuous glucose monitoring and other diabetes technologies.
Dr Tan brings a strong commitment to patient-centred care and clear communication. She believes that informed, engaged patients achieve better outcomes, and she takes care to explain diagnoses and treatment options in plain language, adapting her approach to the individual needs of each person she sees.
A particular strength of Dr Tan's practice is her ability to consult in Mandarin and Malay as well as English, enabling patients from Chinese-speaking and Malay-speaking backgrounds to engage fully with their care in their preferred language. She sees patients at Suite 49, Cabrini Malvern, and provides inpatient endocrinology consultation at Cabrini Malvern Hospital.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Tan is undertaking doctoral research as a PhD student in the Metabolic Bone Research group at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. Her research interests focus on osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease — conditions that form a central part of her clinical practice and that she is committed to advancing through translational research.
Dr Tan's clinical interests span the full range of adult endocrinology, with particular expertise in diabetes, thyroid and parathyroid conditions, osteoporosis, and women's hormonal health — areas she has developed through her training at Bendigo Health and Monash Health and her doctoral research in metabolic bone disease.
Management of type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes including insulin initiation and optimisation, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and diabetes technology. Emphasis on individualised treatment plans and shared decision-making.
Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism (including Graves' disease), thyroid nodules and goitre, thyroid cancer follow-up, primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism, and hypoparathyroidism.
