Dr Sunni Yuan is a consultant endocrinologist dedicated to evidence-based, individualised and compassionate care for adults across the full range of endocrine conditions. She has a particular passion for diabetes — including the use of emerging technology to improve glycaemic outcomes and quality of life — as well as thyroid disease, women's hormonal health, and pituitary disorders.

Dr Yuan graduated in medicine from the University of Melbourne and completed specialist physician training in general medicine and endocrinology at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and Alfred Health. She is a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). Her research into the use of technology to improve glycaemic outcomes in both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes has been published in international journals and presented at national and international conferences.

Biography

Clinical background & expertise

Dr Sunni Yuan completed a Bachelor of Biomedicine with Honours at the University of Melbourne before undertaking her medical degree (MD) at the same institution. She subsequently trained in general medicine and endocrinology at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and Alfred Health, two of Melbourne's leading academic health services, before being awarded Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).

Dr Yuan provides specialist care across the full breadth of adult endocrinology. She has developed a particular expertise in diabetes — both type 1 and type 2 — with a strong interest in the use of technology to optimise glycaemic control and improve patient experience. This includes continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pump therapy, and automated insulin delivery (hybrid closed-loop) systems. She is committed to helping patients access and get the most from contemporary diabetes technologies, and to translating advances in this rapidly evolving field into practical, personalised management plans.

Beyond diabetes, Dr Yuan has a strong interest in thyroid disorders, women's hormonal health — including polycystic ovary syndrome, menstrual irregularity and preconception care — and pituitary disease. She takes a thorough, unhurried approach and places particular value on ensuring that patients understand their condition and feel genuinely involved in decisions about their care.

Dr Yuan sees patients at Suite 49, Cabrini Malvern, and provides inpatient endocrinology consultation at Cabrini Malvern Hospital. She is committed to close collaboration with referring general practitioners and allied health providers to support coordinated, ongoing care.
